The Salt Lake Temple sits among dozens of carefully lighted white and red trees, including the Cedar of Lebanon (the red tree shown in this image). While December is the darkest month of the year, the season is celebrated with light, a reminder of the light and hope Christ brought with him when he came into the world. For 48 years, the lights at Temple Square have reminded us of this reason for the season. But whether or not lights are a part of your holiday traditions, you can celebrate Christ's light with these gorgeous photos taken at this year's Temple Square lights display.

Temple Square, a 10-acre complex owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is one of Utah's most popular tourist attractions.
Certainly one of the most anticipated events for any family with a missionary in the field are the Christmas Day and Mother’s Day phone calls. This is especially true when it is the first phone call home from the missionary who is serving. The chance to actually hear your missionary’s voice (and maybe see his/her face too, if you’re using Skype) can be an immensely gratifying and uplifting experience. The opportunity to call home should be an experience that will motivate both the missionary and their family. The following tips come from my own experiences and from several other RMs to help you make the most of your phone call.
“Missionary work should begin and end with our minds focused on the blessings of the holy temple,” Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in an address he titled “Begin with the End in Mind.”
A personal peek into the life of the mother of four girls, artist of eight albums, and author of two books.
When my friend told her father that she was seriously considering marrying a young man who didn’t serve a mission, his jaw dropped. Her father harbored some justified concerns about this young man she had fallen in love with. But in this case (like in many other cases), he had changed his ways and was ready for an eternal commitment to the Lord—and to her. This example is just one of many where that old stigma catches up with us: the assumption that “non-RM” young men may be less worthy or ready for the blessings of a temple marriage.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson and Elder Ronald A. Rasband along with former U.S. Senator Gordon H. Smith of the Seventy presented a special gift to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden during his brief visit to Temple Square on February 26, 2016, according to Mormon Newsroom.
On October 12-15, I had an amazing visit to Utah. I conducted a faculty workshop at Brigham Young University on abortion and personhood, and then gave a talk on my return to the Catholic Church. Both events were attended by faculty members from both the School of Law and the School of Religion. I also conducted a workshop in Salt Lake City for the LDS Public Affairs Office on the topic of Catholic Social Thought. It was the first time I had visited BYU since 1992. My hosts–at both BYU and Salt Lake–were delightful. I had a wonderful time.
