Reflecting on the Strength of Meekness: A Magnify Favorite

As we continue to share some of the Magnify team’s favorites this month, this week's will help remind us about what it truly means to be meek. We did a series on peacemakers last year, where we picked the many attributes of a peacemaker, including meekness. And some thoughts might come to your mind like church mouse, or pushover, but on this episode, Shima Baughman explained that meekness is strength! In fact, that was the title of this episode.

It’s Always Worth the Effort: A Magnify Favorite

This month on Magnify, our team has put our heads together to share different episodes from our past nearly 100 episodes to bring you some of our favorite moments. This week, we are featuring some thoughts from Kalo Latu’s episode, “No Entry Level Requirements.” Kalo stated that we often get in our own way of creating a relationship with the Savior because we think there is an entry level to starting that relationship. But this reminder that we can all do it, no matter where we are on the path, was a great one to reflect on.

Emily Inouye Huey: The Generational Impact of Belief in Humanity

Emily Inouye Huey’s father was born in a prison camp during World War II. His parents were imprisoned simply for the color of their skin and suffered terrible injustices. Still, Huey’s father and other ancestors chose to move forward following the war, refusing to harbor resentment or bitterness—passing on to their children and grandchildren the hope of a much brighter future. Today, Emily is an author who wants to make sure their victory over the atrocities of war is known and that their legacy lives on.

Alma 13-16: Rest

Read this powerful request from Alma: “I wish from the inmost part of my heart, and with great anxiety even unto pain, that you would hearken unto my words…” (Alma 13:27). He said this while preaching with Amulek to the people of Ammonihah, but what would follow applies just as much to us today. This week’s Come, Follow Me reading in Alma 13–16 tells us what these important words are and how they can lead us to our ultimate goal of God’s rest.

Unnamed Women of the Book of Mormon: Women in the Wilderness

Today, we are going to study what the word wilderness means, looking at the Book of Mormon’s named and unnamed women who not only lived in the wilderness but thrived.

Alma 17–22: Instrument

Alma 17–22 is full of great missionary stories. Abish, Ammon, his brothers, and those they taught all learned about the nature of God through the power of the Holy Ghost. They were examples of belief, service, and most of all an example of being an instrument in the hands of the Lord to share His message.

Sharley Funk: Slowly Losing a Husband to Early-Onset Alzheimer’s

Lance Funk was just 51-years-old when he was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the past few years, his wife, Sharley, has watched as her once strong, vivacious husband has all but disappeared from before her eyes and yet, for now, he is still with her physically and she is determined to cherish the time they have left together. On this week’s episode, Sharley explains why she has tried to be open and honest in documenting her family’s experience with Alzheimer’s.

Alma 23-29: Anti-Nephi-Lehi

President Russell M. Nelson in the October 2011 General Conference said that “One of the most important concepts of revealed religion is that of a sacred covenant.” Today as we study Alma 23–29 we are going to dig into the doctrine of covenants and learn about a group of people who were willing to sacrifice everything in order to keep the covenant they had made.

Alma 30–31: Plea

We can learn a lot about the ways believers are deceived even today through the study of Korihor in the Book of Mormon. This week in just two chapters, Alma 30–31 we see examples of his counterfeit and find ways to identify true doctrine that can never change. And by the end of the scripture block Korihor will meet his end, reminding us that God will always prevail.

Alma 32–35: Faith

Alma 32–35 are the quintessential chapters on faith in the Book of Mormon, and however you have studied this topic before, we will approach it differently today. Cherie Call has borne testimony of faith through her life in song. So, sit back as you listen to and study this soundtrack of faith.
