When Carson Jones invited Chy Johnson to sit with him and his football buddies at lunch last fall, he didn't think it was a big deal. Since that time, Johnson's story has been a source of inspiration told through accounts in the national media and, most recently, the priesthood session of LDS general conference. Johnson, 16, has microcephaly, a brain disorder. She became a target for bullies at Queen Creek High School. After hearing her daughter express frustration about the other kids throwing trash at her, Chy’s mother, Elizabeth Johnson, called up Jones to ask if he’d give her some names of the bullies. Instead, Jones befriended her daughter.
He already went viral. Now, he'll try and do it again, live. Stephen Jones, best known for his BYU Old Spice parody YouTube hit that notched more than 2.5 million views, joins The Left Field Stand Up Comedy for live performances in Salt Lake City this weekend. "Look at your weekend, now look at mine, now back at your weekend, now back to mine," says Jones, referencing his popular impersonation in a news release. "Sadly, it's not mine. But if you stopped sitting at home watching YouTube videos and came out to see a live show, it could be like mine." Founded by Jones and seven other BYU students this past fall, The Left Field Stand Up Comedy is a traveling ensemble of Mormon comedians united over a commitment to perform clean, family-friendly material.
Most of us have the same perception of consecration that Steven Harper had when he went to the temple for the first time: The Lord “revealed the law of consecration to the early Saints. They couldn’t live it, so the Lord revoked the higher law, gave the lower law of tithing, and would someday give the higher law again.” But if someone had asked him how he knew that, he says he wouldn't have had an answer. Now after studying the topic for years, Harper has a different understanding of what consecration is and on this week’s episode he shares the answers he's found with us.
