Imagine being in a courtroom and holding your breath before a sentence is given to someone. You might experience a similar feeling studying the books of Nahum, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah. While these books may be short in length, they are rich in passion and conviction as prophets of old pronounce sentences on the people they have been sent to save. So as we dive into the scriptures this week, we invite you to sit in on these cases to watch and learn as the prophets’ judgments unfold.
March Madness is in full swing and, in 1981, Danny Ainge experienced his "one shining moment” in the NCAA Tournament when he scored with two seconds left on the clock, helping BYU advance to the Elite Eight. It was the highlight of a remarkable college basketball career, but only the beginning of his professional career in sports. Still, Ainge doesn’t take credit for his success. He insists that the Lord has placed angels—ordinary people setting an extraordinary example—along his path to help him every step of the way. In this episode, we talk about the power of positive influences in our lives that guide our paths and why Ainge believes the people we surround ourselves with have the ability to make all the difference.
Tennisa grew up in the Salt Lake City area the daughter of a single mother, from whom she learned perseverance, independence, and to love fiercely. She was baptized at age 8 1/2 but didn't become active in church until her junior high friends invited her to attend seminary. There she grew a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and started her faith journey. One of her most joy-filled days was when she and her mother received their temple endowments together on her 21st birthday in the Atlanta, GA temple. Tennisa attended Ricks College and the University of Utah where she earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting. She has recently returned to higher education to pursue an MBA at Western Governors University. Out of college, she began working as a Senior Accountant at Deseret Book Company in January of 2000 where she still works today as the Director of Product Management. She loves her career and thrives in learning, but the role that brings Tennisa the most pride and joy is her role as a wife to Lantz for 26 years, and mom to the amazing and talented Saley, Grant, Bella, Hazel, and the dog, Bentley. Together they love to dance in the kitchen, blast music and sing during chores, travel, play games, attend each other's games and performances, and raft the Snake River near Jackson Hole, WY.
When Dean Hughes began writing his latest book, he didn't plan on writing about polygamy but the topic became impossible to ignore. At times, there are things (both past and present) that may affect our beliefs and be impossible to ignore. Dean describes these things as "muddy," but explains that there are faithful ways to approach seemingly messy aspects of our faith or our Church's history.
Stories in this episode: Sarah and KaRyn share lessons learned from their very first storytelling project over 15 years ago when they invited accomplished, faithful women (like Emma Lou Thayne, Ariel Bybee, Liz Lemon Swindle, Olene Walker) into their living rooms; Leslie, Claire, Cari, Tennisa, & Emily give us 2 minute stories of letting the Lord lead from the start of our THIS IS THE GOSPEL video series.
