Elder Jeffrey R. Holland once described the Savior’s final hours as being “the loneliest journey ever made.” This week, as we take a look at Luke 22 and John 18, we'll study Christ's loneliest hours when He faced betrayal, mocking, and rejection. These chapters remind us that when we are facing our loneliest hours, we are never truly alone—our Savior knows just what we are experiencing, and He will be there to guide us through our own difficult paths.

As many La Jolla residents may have noticed, one of the area’s most prominent landmarks on the east side of I-5 is undergoing some changes. The snow-white, ethereal-looking San Diego temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) has been surrounded by scaffolding for the last five months to facilitate an intricate refurbishing project that should leave the site gleaming like never before. A popular tourist attraction and visitor site, the 72,000-square-foot temple was dedicated on April 30, 1993 as the 45th temple erected by the Latter-day Saints worldwide. More than 700,000 visitors have toured its scenic grounds since. Multiple weddings and baptisms are held at the temple each week.

Countless Latter-day Saint families — including those living in Utah and others outside the Beehive State — are likely planning a warm weather excursion to Church headquarters in Salt Lake City. There's plenty to see on Temple Square and in neighboring venues such as the Church History Museum, the Conference Center and in the historic Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Twenty-five years ago, without really knowing it, I had my first experience with religious freedom. Looking back, this shouldn’t surprise me, given the religious uniqueness of my hometown: mostly Catholic, a strong contingent of atheists, and a smattering of other faiths. But as a senior in high school, when I began to explore my own spirituality in an overt way, exposing myself to both ridicule and opposition, religious liberty was a friend and constant companion for which I am only now beginning to show proper gratitude and reverence.
