Asia’s first “For the Strength of Youth Facility” has been specifically designed to host FSY conferences, helping Latter-day Saint youth have fun, strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, and feel joy and belonging as they live the gospel.

In Philippians 4, Paul shared: “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest…think on these things.” We’ve heard it before that “honesty is the best policy” so how do we discover what it really means to be honest with God, honest with ourselves, and honest with others? President Nelson has shared that we can change the world and find peace in our lives when we interact with others managing our differences with honesty and respect.

Last year’s pilot session of virtual FSY surpassed organizers’ expectations and more sessions will be available for summer 2024.

Wayne Hamby has spent much of his life working and traveling around the world to out-of-the-way places in search of diamonds and precious gemstones. And though Brother Hamby has had many opportunities to see God’s hand in his life as he has encountered dangerous and uncertain circumstances, he knows the blessings he has seen are a result of a lifetime of small but powerful spiritual experiences.

In 1960, I was living near Hamburg in West Germany and was called to be the mission YMMIA president. Half of the members of our mission lived in East Germany, which necessitated having counterpart Young Men’s and Young Ladies’ presidents serving in the same capacity in East Germany. Because the Church members were scattered over a large area, we made a special effort to plan as many activities as possible that could be attended by all the youth of the mission. This presented some problems peculiar to our mission, since half the mission was in West Germany and West Berlin, and the other half was behind the Iron Curtain. It was impossible to hold any activities in the eastern sector, so we scheduled all of our programs in West Berlin so that the East Germans could also attend. They could easily board a subway in East Berlin, ride across the border into West Berlin and attend the meeting, then return to their homes without difficulty.

Faith begins with a question. We hope. We want to believe. But we are not sure. As Alma states, faith is not knowledge (Alma 32:26). It is a desire to believe. So, we make room in our hearts for the seed, and in so doing we trust that if it is indeed a “good seed,” it will sprout and grow and our hearts and minds will expand with “light.”

How can we beckon hopefully? I identified three ways loved ones have beckoned to me over the years, ways that I hope to beckon to those I care about, too.

Ashley Quist has a love for the written word. With that love for scripture, she has found strength and hope surviving mental illnesses and Crohn’s disease. She is mother to four sweet daughters and wife to her fly fisherman husband, Nate. Ashley loves time in the kitchen and not doing laundry. She soaks up every minute with her girls, and enjoys hiking beautiful trails with Nate, especially with her favorite dogs, Chip and Jojo.
