I recently had the opportunity to read Sheri Dew’s book, Women and the Priesthood: What One Mormon Woman Believes. I should note that I don’t usually share book reviews on this site; we have made a deliberate decision to make this a non-commercial space. But I am making an exception for this book because I believe the doctrine of the priesthood and the doctrines that surround it are so priceless and important. I have long had a deep passion for the power of womanhood in God’s plan (hence the creation of this site!). It is my hope that sharing about her book can help someone want to do more to study and ponder “life-changing, mind-expanding eternal principles” (p. 10) that relate to and bump up against the questions that many people have about why Mormon women aren’t ordained to the priesthood.

Church Opens New Missionary Display

Photos from the Temple Square Facebook page The Church announced yesterday that a new display featuring stories of missionaries from around the world opened on Temple Square. The exhibit, entitled 8 Stories, shares the experiences of eight former full-time missionaries in short video clips. "The exhibit overviews how the teachings of Jesus Christ and missionary service affect these individuals and others they served," the official Temple Square Facebook page shared in a post.

With large families, a deep love of Israel and the Jewish people, simultaneous dedication to our faith and engagement with the broader world, dietary restrictions and modest dress, and being misunderstood (even by our coreligionists), Orthodox Jews surprisingly have much in common with one of the fastest growing religions in the United States – the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS), colloquially known as the Mormons. I would like to share reflections on last week’s meetings, coordinated by the Orthodox Union’s Advocacy Center, with the church and its political leadership in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Watch: Study Reveals Statistical Evidence of Book of Mormon

This video, created by Book of Mormon Central,sums up the results of a recent study that analyzed the diverse writing styles of the authors of the Book of Mormon. The study also analyzed famous authors of the 19th century and the different writing or speaking styles of each character represented in their books. The video states, "Even if Joseph Smith had been a skilled and experienced writer, in order to fabricate the Book of Mormon, he would have needed an ability to create distinct fictional voices that surpassed some of the greatest novelists of his day."

Soon there will be two Mormons running for president if Jon Huntsman, the former governor of Utah, follows through on his plans to join former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in the race for the Republican nomination. We look forward to hearing more from them but otherwise would note only that they seem to meet the qualifications prescribed in the Constitution: They are both natural-born citizens over 35 years old who have resided in the United States for at least 14 years.

First Presidency Expresses Love, Support to Victims of the Terrorist Attacks in France

Last evening, November, Friday the 13th, six simultaneous terrorist attacks in Paris, France left at least 129 dead and 352 injured, according to CNN. In the wake of this horrible tragedy, the First Presidency made this official statement, expressing their love and support to the people of France:

Mormon Apostles Visit 23 Stakes in St. George, Utah

Sunshine and warm weather are among the things that draw people to St. George, Utah, this time of year. “I’ve waited 40 years for the opportunity to be assigned to go to St. George in the winter. When I got there, the weather was worse than it was in Salt Lake City,” said Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of his visit to southern Utah December 13-15, when temperatures plunged into the low 20 degrees and snow blanketed the ground.
