This morning on KSL’s Doug Wright Show, Mormon Tabernacle Choir director Mack Wilberg gave listeners a sneak peek into some unique circumstances for this year’s Christmas performance. Traditionally there are two guest artists at the holiday concert, but one of those artists this year, Wilberg explained, is an entire neighborhood – Sesame Street Muppets. Elmo joined the announcement via phone, expressing excitement to be coming to Salt Lake as one of the special guests from Sesame Street. Some of Elmo’s friends who will also be joining the choir will soon be announced on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir social media outlets.

But I want to turn things around to expose one flaw of maintaining an eternal perspective that I think affects us today—especially in our modern Mormon culture.
As a mother of four missionaries, I have had the opportunity to embark on the great adventure of shopping for missionary clothing. As fun as it can be, I quickly learned from experience and from observing others that sometimes this experience can be anything but pleasant.

Before I joined the more than church 20 years ago, I would compare my life to a room with no windows. It lacked warmth and light. It was cold and hard, with very little room to breathe. Every once in a while, I could hear that there was more beyond the walls that trapped me, but I didn’t know how to find my way out.
