LDS author, scholar Matthew B. Brown passes away

It is with sadness that I learned shortly ago that Matthew B. Brown has passed away. He was dealing with complications after a heart failure incident which occurred on September 23rd while he was in the BYU library. He was about 47 years old. He will be sorely missed. Matt Brown was a well-known scholar, historian, lecturer, and author of LDS temple and gospel studies, and a great influence and inspiration to me, and I’m sure many others.

The doors of the newly completed Kansas City Temple were opened on Thursday, April 5 as hundreds of VIP special guests toured the 137th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Guests included Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and his wife, Georganne, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Supreme Court justices and government officials from both states, religious, education, civic, business and entertainment leaders and members of local, regional and national media.

Meteorite affects missionaries and members in Russia

More than 1,000 people were injured when a meteorite traveling at 19 miles per second exploded over Chelyabinsk, a city 950 miles east of Moscow, raining fireballs and sending a shock wave over the area Friday morning, February 15, according to Reuters news service. The same morning, in the Russia Yekaterinburg Mission, Elder Kendal King and Elder Benjamin Latimer, zone leaders serving in Chelyabinsk, were in the middle of their morning studies when something unusual happened.

Mormon-raised Paul Walker Remembered for Faith and Films

Actor Paul Walker, who is known for his role as Brian O’Conner in "The Fast and the Furious” movies, died in a car accident Nov. 30. But in addition to his films, Walker also leaves behind a legacy of faith and generosity. According to the Christian Post, Walker grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glendale, Calif. Although he was not an active Mormon in his adult years, Walker remained a Christian.
