D&C 133-134: Prepare the Coming

Mon Nov 17 04:00:04 EST 2025
Episode 47
0:00 / 0:00

Jesus is coming, look busy could be seen as the theme to Doctrine and Covenants 133. Near the same time that Section 1 was revealed as a preface to the Book of Commandments, Joseph Smith received Section 133 as an appendix. These closing words to the saints are focused on the coming of Christ and what we need to do to prepare.

Segment 1

Books:
The Red Headed Hostess with Deseret Book

Words of the General Authorities:
That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty…There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing. (Russell M. Nelson, “Hope of Israel”, Worldwide Youth Devotional, June 3, 2018)

Translations:
Remember - zakar = to recall and then act

Segment 2

Scriptures:
D&C 133 (The appendix of the Doctrine and Covenants)
D&C 1 (The preface of the Doctrine and Covenants)

Words of the General Authorities:
The very first word in the Doctrine and Covenants is hearken. It means “to listen with the intent to obey.” To hearken means to “hear Him”—to hear what the Savior says and then to heed His counsel. In those two words—“Hear Him”—God gives us the pattern for success, happiness, and joy in this life. We are to hear the words of the Lord, hearken to them, and heed what He has told us!
As we seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ, our efforts to hear Him need to be ever more intentional. It takes conscious and consistent effort to fill our daily lives with His words, His teachings, His truths. (Russell M. Nelson, “Hear Him”, April 2020 General Conference)

Segment 3

Scriptures:
D&C 133:4-16 (Get busy)

Segment 4

Scriptures:
D&C 133:14 (Get out of Babylon)
D&C 133:19 (Go out and meet Christ)
D&C 133:4,10,17,19 (Prepare ye)
D&C 133:33 (Songs of everlasting joy)

Words of the General Authorities:
We are whole in Jesus Christ when we exercise our agency to follow Him in faith, submit our hearts to Him so He can change them, keep His commandments, and enter a covenant relationship with Him, meekly enduring and learning from the challenges of this earthly estate until we return to His presence and are healed in every way. I can be whole while I wait for healing if I am wholehearted in my relationship with Him. (Camille N. Johnson, “Spiritually Whole in Him”, April 2025 General Conference)

Quotes:
And the sea in the mirror, or the valley in the mirror, were in one sense just the same as the real ones: yet at the same time they were somehow different - deeper, more wonderful, more like places in a story: in a story you have never heard but very much want to know. The difference between the old Narnia and the new Narnia was like that. The new one was a deeper country: every rock and flower and blade of grass looked as if it meant more. I can't describe it any better than that: if you ever get there, you will know what I mean. It was the Unicorn who summed up what everyone was feeling. He stamped his right fore-hoof on the ground and neighed and then cried: "I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now. The reason why we loved the old Narnia is that it sometimes looked a little like this. (C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle)

Segment 5

Scriptures:
D&C 133:45 (Great things prepared for us)
Psalm 130:5 (Wait for the Lord)
D&C 133:48-53 (The journey of Christ)
CR: Isaiah 63:2-4

Segment 6

Scriptures:
D&C 134:1 (Governmental accountability)

Words of the General Authorities:
What else are faithful Latter-day Saints to do? We must pray for the Lord to guide and bless all nations and their leaders. This is part of our article of faith. Being subject to presidents or rulers of course poses no obstacle to our opposing individual laws or policies. It does require that we exercise our influence civilly and peacefully within the framework of our constitutions and applicable laws. On contested issues, we should seek to moderate and unify. (Dallin H. Oaks, “Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution”, April 2021 General Conference)
