In March 1832, Joseph Smith met with Church leaders to discuss Church business, which, at the time, was the need to publish revelations, purchase land, and care for the poor. In today’s study of Doctrine and Covenants sections 77–80, we will discover how the Lord met these needs and helped prepare His children to receive “a place in the celestial world” and “the riches of eternity.”

D&C 78:19 (Receive with thankfulness)

Words of the General Authorities:
Gratitude is a mark of a noble soul and a refined character. We like to be around those who are grateful. They tend to brighten all around them. They make others feel better about themselves. They tend to be more humble, more joyful, more likable. (Joseph B. Wirthlin, “Live in Thanksgiving Daily”, BYU Speeches delivered on October 31 2000)

Let me suggest three simple phrases that we can use to take the sting out of difficulties and differences, lift, and reassure each other: “Thank you.” “I am sorry.” And “I love you.” Do not save these humble phrases for a special event or catastrophe. Use them often and sincerely, for they show regard for others. (Ronald A. Rasband, “Words Matter”, April 2024 General Conference)

Showing gratitude for our privileges is a fast-acting and longlasting spiritual prescription. (Russell M. Nelson, “The Healing Power of Gratitude”)
