On his 101st birthday, President Russell M. Nelson shared a touching message through social media, expressing his humble gratitude for being able to celebrate his birthday with his children—whom, though all adults, he said he continues to feel a fatherly tenderness for.

“I’ve done my best to teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ,” he wrote. “The glad tidings I have taught them are the same lessons I have often shared with you.”

The prophet testified that God is our Father, we are His children, and this is the Church of Jesus Christ.

“It is only through Jesus Christ’s Atonement that we can repent of our sins and return to God’s presence,” he wrote.

He continued with counsel to “think celestial,” follow the covenant path, work to hear the voice of the Lord, and be peacemakers—all teachings he’s become known for during his time as prophet.

“Thank you for your prayers,” President Nelson wrote. “You inspire me to strive to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.”

One Facebook user commented, “Happy birthday, President Nelson! Your Christ-centered teachings and discipleship have truly blessed and influenced my life and the way my husband and I teach our children to truly know Jesus. We love you!”

A comment on Instagram reads, “Happy birthday, President Nelson!! You have changed my life and countless others. You have been an incredible example of peacemaking, creating bridges with other faiths, and have led God’s church with such grace and conviction. We all truly love you.”
