In the October 2025 general conference, Elder Kevin G. Brown spoke about how to gain a sure witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His topic on choosing to believe and taking charge of one’s testimony resonated with many people, and his story has ignited conversations about what it means to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true.
Here are a few inspiring responses to Elder Brown’s talk.
Reaching Hearts Through Walls
On social media, many people commented on the power of Elder Brown’s personal conviction and sincere delivery. They shared stories of how his testimony impacted their family members, particularly younger people facing trials in today’s world. For example, a mother shared on Instagram:
“Elder Brown’s testimony was so powerful it caught my teenager’s attention from the other room—and he’s been struggling lately. My son said, ‘I wish more people testified like that!’ Elder Brown was exactly right when he said, ‘We need more sure witnesses of Jesus Christ and His gospel.’ He didn’t just say it—he was one. His words carried the Spirit so strongly [that] they reached hearts through walls. Truly powerful.”
Another woman wrote on Facebook:
“Thank you, Elder Brown, for your powerful testimony. The youth and YSAs in our family were especially strengthened by your message. Thank you for the hope you shared for many who may wonder about those they love who struggle, that testimonies are still there.”
Loving (and Living) Your Testimony
Another theme that impacted Church members was Elder Brown’s example of cherishing and embodying his testimony. As one person commented, “You could feel how much he loves his own testimony and desires the same for all of us.” Another shared, “His talk was just amazing because you know HE KNEW!”
During conference, Elder Brown shared his experience praying to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon as a young man in Jamaica. In an interview with the Church News, Elder Brown shared more details:
“‘I just knelt, and as I said, “Heavenly Father,” I didn’t even have to ask the question,’ he recalled, saying the Lord answered him with two profound understandings: First, he was known and loved by Heavenly Father. Second, the Spirit confirmed the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and of Joseph Smith, God’s Prophet.
“‘I remember getting up off my knees. I felt like every hair on my body was standing up; it just went from my head to my toes. I was emotional, and I was excited. …
“‘That changed my life. No one could take that away from me. No matter how long I live, I will never forget it. I remember it vividly. It is burned in my heart, in my memory, my soul.’”
Overcoming Opposition
Elder Brown’s story also hit home for many converts and members who have faced opposition or loneliness because of their faith.
When he was younger, Elder Brown often attended church meetings alone, as his Latter-day-Saint father had died when Elder Brown was 5 years old and his mother was not a member. And when he started high school, he says his classmates and friends often questioned why he decided to participate actively in the Church.
“It was painful, especially when it came from people I cared about,” Elder Brown shared. “But what they didn’t know was this: I had an experience with the Holy Ghost.”
Elder Brown says that Church members also supported him, including a sister missionary and his branch president.
One convert commented about his talk:
“For someone who is the only member of my own family, this answered a lot of questions I had these past few months since I encountered opposition from family members, but I know that I have loving church leaders from my ward [who] have been there whenever I needed it the most, as well as my Heavenly Father and His beloved Son!”
Receiving a Wake-up Call
Many members appreciated Elder Brown’s suggestion that we can use our agency to choose to believe or reconnect with our testimonies.
“Man, this talk was a wake-up call for me,” one person commented. “I need to share and bear my testimony more often. Such power, thank you Elder Brown.” Another wrote, “Elder Brown’s talk was an answer to a prayer I didn’t know I had.”
One person shared on Instagram:
“Words cannot adequately express how much this talk meant to me. Choosing to believe has been at the forefront of my mind for a long time. Thank you, Elder Brown, for your witness of Jesus Christ, and for the spirit your words brought into our home today. Bless you.”
Many Latter-day Saints have commented that the talk has motivated them to nurture their testimonies even more and share their beliefs. “This will go down as one of my favorite talks,” one social media user wrote. “I have been feeling the urgency to stand as a witness of Jesus Christ and keep my testimony strong. The time is NOW! Elder Brown’s faith and conviction [are] a perfect example of strength and power in standing for what you believe!”
Another person commented on Facebook:
“Now imagine we all continue the path and can testify with the same power he did. The Lord needs disciples who speak His words and proclaim truth. Let us continue faithful so that we may gather others and inspire them just as this man has. Powerful talk!”
