Those who pray and study scriptures at home report higher levels of happiness, meaning, and feelings of God’s love in their life, according to a new study from the Wheatley Institution. Highly religious couples—those who attend church and worship regularly at home—also report greater relationship satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and a sense of spousal commitment, kindness, forgiveness, and joint decision-making.

Sometimes the heavens may feel closed. Sometimes a nap may feel more important than attending church. Both of these feelings are ones Elder Dale G. Renlund felt in his early family life, which he shares as part of the “How I Hear Him” series. Recalling an experience he had as a young medical resident, Elder Renlund knew he could have hurried to complete his tasks at the hospital and make it home for church. Instead, he chose to stall so by the time he made it home his wife and daughter would already be gone for church and he could take a much-desired nap.

Among these guests is Claire, who hid behind a “good girl” image to keep her shoplifting a secret from her family for as long as she could. But when her shoplifting became out of control and she started using drugs later in life, Claire found herself feeling hollow and desperate for change.
