President Russell M. Nelson passes away at age 101

I was called as the mission president of the France Bordeaux Mission in 1989, and we arrived in Bordeaux in the month of July. The mission was just opening, and we were the first family to live in the mission home, which was still being furnished when we arrived. The mission home needed a piano, and we were encouraged to visit local music stores to find one. It seemed with each store we entered, seeing our missionary tags with the name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the proprietor of the store would say, “I know one of your members, Philippe Moreau.” Philippe was a concert pianist of some reputation in Bordeaux, and I was impressed that he was so open about his beliefs. I expected to meet him soon. When we did not meet him, I asked the leaders in Bordeaux about Philippe Moreau. Their countenances saddened at the question, and they informed me that he was no longer a member of the Church. They explained that he had joined the Church in his late teens and had been a fervent disciple of the Savior, but then had moved away from the Savior’s teachings.

Marie Osmond is not only known worldwide for her musical talent but is also known for her faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. Osmond shares a special “Sunday Message” every week on her Facebook page that shares a portion of her beliefs.

Ever since the tape started rolling at BYUtv nearly 20 years ago, this non-commercial television network has kept a laser-like focus on their mission statement “to be the family entertainment brand that young people want, parents trust, and families enjoy together.” And through nationally renowned shows like Studio C, Dwight in Shining Armor, and Relative Race they have certainly done just that.

Winterfest is Brigham Young University’s winter performance series in Salt Lake City. From January 31 to March 14, 2020, performing groups from Brigham Young University will entertain audiences at the Conference Center Theater.

Most people probably haven’t heard of John Howland, an indentured servant who crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Mayflower in 1620. Historic names like William Bradford, John Carver, and Myles Standish are likely more familiar.

Many Church members are familiar with the account of the First Vision contained in the Pearl of Great Price, but not all members are familiar with a version that combines all nine surviving accounts into one.

In the New Testament, the Savior asks a question that David Butler says seems “ridiculous” on the first read. Jesus asks, “What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?” (Luke 15:4). It wasn’t until Butler found himself separated from his son at Disneyland that he began to understand what the Savior meant.

Shortly after I was born, I was baptized as a Catholic. Even though my parents weren’t practicing members of the Catholic church, they still had some belief in God and felt it was the right thing to do.
