The unexpected comment from a temple worker that pointed me toward Christ

Greg McKeown, the guest on this week’s episode of All In, has taught the principles of “essentialism” to some of the biggest and most successful companies in the world, including Apple and Google. His writings have been published in Fortune, Politico, and Harvard Business Review, among others. But he is also a husband, father and former Latter-day Saint bishop who seeks to apply in his own life the principles that he says are found on nearly every page of scripture.

When I was a little boy I was given a small Bible. If I remember correctly, it was only the New Testament. As I read I was drawn to 1 Corinthians 13, which is about charity, and, even as a child, I knew that for me that chapter was about the family I would someday have. Years later, before I was married, I received a patriarchal blessing. In that blessing the patriarch described the feeling that would someday be in my home. He described exactly what I had felt years before when I read 1 Corinthians 13, and I knew that the scriptures were a way that God speaks to me.

How can we better understand the connection women have with priesthood power and help them “to step forward,” to “take [their] rightful and needful place in [their] home, in [their] community, and in the kingdom of God—more than [they] ever have before”?1 First, we can humbly seek to understand truths associated with the priesthood, especially the most recent teachings of Church leaders. Second, we can seek to understand why some women don’t fully realize their access to God’s priesthood power. Third, we can be aware of how we can help women more fully participate in the work God accomplishes through His priesthood power.
