A Baptist preacher joined the Church. His advice for new members is golden

Do you know the different translations of the name Mormon? It's a word associated with good, love, charity, and one of our most sacred books of scriptures. Learn more about the meaning of this name and how it can still be significant in our worship even as we follow our prophet to refer to ourselves as Latter-day Saints and followers of Christ.

More and more it seems the Church and our leaders are focusing on simplifying programs, meetings, and reports to focus on the core of the gospel. To me, the overall message seems to be that, no matter our age, we won't be babied or shepherded through membership in the Church. Instead, we have the opportunity to embrace our discipleship, rely on our Savior and receive His grace, and pursue exaltation and the divinity within us, with the loving support of the Church and its members behind us to catch us when we fall.

Let’s assume, for the sake of discussion, that the declarations of the official witnesses to the Book of Mormon are true. (I’m happy to argue for their truth, but that’s not today’s topic.) What, if anything, would they establish?

Like many women around me, I decided to participate in the invitation President Nelson extended to the women of the Church to fast from social media for 10 days. He said, “I invite you to participate in a 10-day fast from social media and from any other media that bring negative and impure thoughts to your mind.” This was one of four invitations all under the overarching objective to “shape the future by helping to gather scattered Israel.” Here are three experiences I had during my 10-day fast that I hope you’ll find beneficial as you navigate your use of social media in the future.
