In this week’s Come, Follow Me, readers learn about the priesthood in Alma 13 and how priesthood holders are “called and prepared from the foundation of the world” (Alma 13:3). While the topic of men and the priesthood has long been taught by prophets and apostles, the subject of women and the priesthood has recently garnered more attention.
What a powerful lesson of why we need to reach for understanding before we make hasty judgments.
While residents up and down the Southeast coast prepped for possible impacts from Hurricane Dorian last week, over 200 volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been preparing to help those that were impacted by the storm. Groups of volunteers across the Raleigh-Durham area have been training to help with the Crisis Cleanup hotline. The helpline in this area is set up to start taking calls beginning this week and will continue until Friday, September 20th.
While sitting in a sacrament meeting a few months ago, Sister Kathy Christofferson had an experience many members of the Church can relate to. It was fast and testimony meeting, and while many stood to share remarkable miracles and observations at the pulpit, Sister Christofferson racked her brain for something extraordinary to share—but nothing came to mind.
Professional organizer Linda Isom has organized her own home and was a featured organizer on this week’s episode of A&E’s Hoarders, called "Eileen/Judy." (Read more about it by clicking here.) “In a nutshell, an organized house is an enormous time saver,” said Isom. “The general structure to the home influences children’s behavior, has a positive effect on your psyche, and makes it much easier to get things accomplished.” Having loads of clutter experience Isom has a few tried and true tips to share with us.
When emeritus General Authority Seventy Elder John H. Groberg was just a young man from a farming community in Idaho, he was called to be a missionary in Tonga. Little did he know at the time that he would later write his own book about his missionary experiences, which would eventually be turned into a successful film, The Other Side of Heaven. The movie’s sequel, Fire of Faith tells the story of Elder Groberg’s return to Tonga with his wife, Jean, and his children after being called as mission president. On this week’s episode, All In host Morgan Jones talks with Elder and Sister Groberg about the spiritual lessons they learned from the Tongan people. They specifically discuss the way they were ministered unto by the entire Tongan nation when their new baby became sick.
How do you follow the Savior's example if your child has left the Church or is struggling with their faith? What's the balance between giving your child room to use his or her agency while showing your love for them? In this week's "All In" episode, parenting guru Justin Coulson explains how the Savior's teachings about love, compassion, and mourning with those that mourn apply to the family. Whether we're a parent or not, we can all learn from the Savior's example of how to "Suffer the little children to come unto me" (Mark 10:14).
I had an unexpected spiritual lesson taught to me after we implemented a new chore/allowance system with our kids. We had recently moved and wanted to get organized. It also coincided with the start of school (with one of our kids starting kindergarten). Don’t all the parenting gurus talk about making sure you disrupt as many routines at once? (No, no they don’t. What were we thinking?!?)
