We discuss how this happened and why Protestants were uniquely situated to do this, although we look at similar Catholic efforts in recent decades. Conference defending LDS doctrine catches attention of Wall Street Journal

This year’s Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research Conference, a forum of presentations defending doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been reported on in the Wall Street Journal. The online story, “Mormons Duck Political Duel,” mentions the two presidential candidates who are members of the LDS Church. The FAIR Conference, at the South Towne Exposition Center Thursday and Friday, will include a presentation on Friday from Newell Bringhurst titled “W. Mitt Romney and Jon M. LDS Church announces 58 new missions 'to accommodate influx of missionaries'

This week's issue of the LDS Church News features a list of the 2013 mission president assignments. The list includes 58 new missions, raising the number of missions from 347 to 405.Following President Thomas S. Monson's announcement during the opening session of the October 2012 general conference that the age for missionary service eligibility would be lowered to 18 for young men and 19 for young women, the church saw an immediate increase in missionary applications, bringing the total number of missionaries to more than 60,000 for the first time in years, according to the Church News.
