A new book from the Neal A. Maxwell Institute of Religious Studies at BYU hopes to eliminate any obstacles posed by the layout of the text.

LDS Church Posts New Article About History of Polygamy
The LDS Church continued enhancing the Gospel Topics pages on its website on Monday, posting one titled "Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah." The essay addresses plural marriage among Latter-day Saints between 1847 and 1890, when the practice was discontinued after church leaders issued what is known as the Manifesto. The new Gospel Topics page includes 25 footnotes, several citing research done by outside historians. It also has links to additional information.

LDS leader writes about why Mormons make good neighbors
In the midst of World War II, Franklin D. Roosevelt came across a newspaper clipping about the ancestry of England's Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his wife, Clementine. The newspaper article noted the couple's common heritage with Mormons in Utah. As Roosevelt and Churchill had become friends by this time, the president sent the clipping to the prime minister, accompanied by a lighthearted letter. "Hitherto I had not observed any outstanding Mormon characteristics in either of you," he wrote. "But I shall be looking for them from now on." He further added, "I have a very high opinion of the Mormons . . . they are excellent citizens."[1]

Ty Mansfield, a gay Mormon who co-wrote a book about same-sex attraction and has since married a woman, taught a religion course this summer at Brigham Young University. He may have been the first openly gay instructor hired to teach at the private university owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but school officials said Friday they could not verify that.
