Did you know that the inspiration for Magnify came from a scripture in Luke chapter 1 verse 46? Living as joyful and wholehearted followers of Jesus isn’t easy. We need the influence of each other to help us muster our courage. And that’s what you’ll find in the Magnify community: encouragement, strength, and inspiration to live differently and to make a difference as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

As is taught in the temple, the Lord has always required his people to offer sacrifice, from the time of our first parents onward. The type and place of sacrifice have changed over the ages, but the fundamental principles undergirding the doctrine of sacrifice have not. Righteous sacrifices are really symbols of our obedience to the Lord, of Jesus Christ and His atonement, of our desire to imitate the Savior and live as He does. Our offering of sacrifice demonstrates our commitment to follow the Lord above anyone or anything else.
Velvet ropes and bright lights lined the red carpet that was rolled out for 870 students from 16 stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, May 3, all celebrating the 7th annual LDS prom at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif. Mock-paparazzi photographers snapped welcoming shots of each couple or solo attendee who walked the red carpet. Large, multi-screen displays of those photos flashed on the interior walls of the venue throughout the entire evening as the 16- to 18-year-old attendees danced to current hits.
Wilmara Valentin Pierce had been walking for hours when she came across the sign that said “Visitors Welcome.” In an attempt to distance herself from the chaotic life of downtown Sao Paulo, a city she called the “New York” of Brazil, the young model was searching for a new place to live. She was also searching for a fresh start.
I’d like to kick the year off with a bit of an introduction to the Doctrine and Covenants, along with some links and suggested reading that will enhance your lesson preparation or participation. Then I’d like to discuss three common ways of reading the scripture. This year holds some important and dramatic differences from any previous cycle through this curriculum. The primary distinction is the availability of the work of the Joseph Smith Papers Project. While Revelations and Translations, Volume 1 (R1) and Volume 2 (R2) (reviewed here and here) are tremendously important, even key to a serious approach to the revelation texts, the Joseph Smith Papers website is almost overwhelming in its documentary and contextual goodness (http://josephsmithpapers.org/). For example, it has the earliest revelation texts in the documents section, the manuscript and published revelations collections in the revelations section, and biographical sketches of all those mentioned in the supplemental materials.
At the Pioneer Day Concert on July 15, Gov. Gary Herbert became the first governor of Utah to conduct the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during a live performance.
