This week’s ‘Come, Follow Me’ nugget: Why you need to include ‘The Living Christ’ in your Christmas

Busy week? Me too. LDS Living is here to catch you up and get you ready for discussions on Sunday. Here’s a nugget of wisdom from this week’s Come, Follow Me study of The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles.

Every year, the Sunday on Monday podcast chooses an annual theme, and for the Come, Follow Me study of the New Testament, the focus has been simple: “Follow Jesus.” After almost a whole year of reading about Christ, His ministry, and the acts of His missionaries after His death, we hope you feel like you know Him, and you can follow Him better.

The New Testament is almost wholly comprised of letters and writings of apostles and disciples who knew Jesus Christ personally. Spiritual giants like Paul, Peter, James, and so many others testify of the Savior’s mission, divinity, and love throughout this book of scripture. The nature of The Living Christ feels very similar: it’s a latter-day testimony of Jesus Christ from His modern apostles.

Christ Lives

This time of year allows us all to take pause and remember Christ’s birth. We sing songs about the shepherds, the three kings, Mary and Joseph, and the angels who all bore witness to the Savior’s birth. We can gather together as families to read the story recounted by Luke in the New Testament. We focus on Christ and His message of peace and hope all season long. And that has been a wonderful part of reading the New Testament in Come, Follow Me this year, but His mortal life is only a part of the beautiful story of Christ.

From The Living Christ:

We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary.

Christ’s mission was important to those who lived before His birth AND to all of us who live after His death. Reading The Living Christ this holiday season can act as a reminder that Jesus Christ is so much more than His miraculous birth. Reading it at the end of a year spent studying the New Testament can remind us that He is more than His teachings in life. Christ lives. And that truth means we can all live again, too.

The Living Christ is a testimony of Him. The Sunday on Monday podcast this week featured a Christmas menagerie of friends and families adding their testimonies of Christ after reading it together. It was a special episode and an opportunity to hear from so many individual people—in varied circumstances—working to follow Him.

And I’ll leave my testimony here too. Christ lives and brings hope to all. Merry Christmas, Sunday on Monday listeners, and we’ll see you in the New Year.

So that was my takeaway this week. To hear more takeaways from other Latter-day Saints on this inspired document, join our study group on Facebook and Instagram.
