Sandwiched between content that instigates comparison and doubt, social media posts from prophets and apostles cut through the noise. These messages help us pause for a moment to reflect on the restored gospel and stay connected to what matters most.

But once you’ve closed the app, it can be easy to forget these prophetic posts. Direct Messages: Words from God’s Prophets to Yougathers apostolic reflections in one place, making it easy to keep their timely insights at the forefront of  your  mind.

Whether you're preparing a talk or lesson or just need to read some inspired counsel, this book invites you to hear what the Lord is saying to you right now.

Here are six timely and personal messages from the book.

1. Overcome Day-to-Day Deviations

“What does the Savior think of me if I continue to make the same [mistakes] or to commit the same sins? (And we’re talking about ordinary, day-to-day deviations from what we want to do.) And I would just say, … the Savior considers you typical of the children of our Heavenly Father. If it weren’t typical to make ordinary, day-to-day deviations from the commandments, He wouldn’t have told us to partake of the sacrament every Sabbath day. When I was your age, I repeated them all the time. I was jealous of fellows that had more athletic ability than I had, and I had thoughts that I shouldn’t entertain. Those are what I call ordinary, day-to-day sins. And that doesn’t diminish us in the love and view that our Savior has of us. We’re put here on earth to live through that kind of thing and to grow. ”

President Dallin H. Oaks  (“Taking the Sacrament Is a Privilege,” page 206)

2. Peacemakers Share Light

“‘Blessed are the peacemakers’ [Matthew 5:9].

“I testify to you that I know the Savior spoke truth when He said this. I pray that each of you will offer peace, and so as peacemakers become the children of God.

“You may well doubt that you can have much effect on the people around you. When you act with faith to offer the gospel and peace to those around you, the light that will come to them will be more than your example and more than your words. They will feel the light of the Savior, and it will have drawn them to Him. ”

President Henry B. Eyring  (“Be a Peacemaker,” page 156)

3. Trust in God’s Plan

“God knows where each of us is. He knows each of us perfectly well. He knows our names. He knows us better than we know ourselves. … God has preserved you to be born in this time so you can be the light to others. I don’t know why exactly each of us was born, when we were born, and where we were born, but I’m persuaded—I’m convinced—that God has a reason for each of us. ”

President D. Todd Christofferson  (“God Has a Purpose for You,” page 25 )

4. Learn Something from Everybody

“My feeling about observation is we can learn something from everybody that we come in contact with. And if you develop a mindset that you can always be taught, that you can always learn something, it doesn’t matter if the person is cleaning my office at the end of the day. If I get into a conversation with that person, I have tried to train my mind and my heart [to ask], What, maybe, could I learn from this person? And if we have willing spirits that are always humble enough to admit that we can learn something from every one of Heavenly Father’s children and not be so prideful to think that we have all the answers, this great capability of learning through observation can be a lifelong journey. ”

Elder Ronald A. Rasband  (“Pursue Education and Lifelong Learning,” page 83)

5. We Can Be Victorious

“The Lord gives us talents and special gifts for a specific reason: so we can live in the challenges of today and be victorious. The Savior believes in you. We believe in you. We trust you. Turn your heart to the Savior and practice the things the gospel teaches.”

Elder Ulisses Soares  (“God Has a Purpose for You,” page 26)

6. Revelation Is Among Us

“I think the wonderful thing about revelation is it’s scattered amongst us. We all have it. If we have particular responsibilities, we’ll receive revelation in relation to responsibilities we have. But we all receive revelation. …  In terms of being an Apostle, I’m very much still learning, so I don’t pretend to know much at all. But I know that I’m much more likely to be receptive to the Spirit when I’m humble. When I’m not thinking about myself. When I’m thinking about others. When I’m open. I’m aware that revelation is much more readily sensed at those times.”

Elder Patrick Kearon  (“God Answers Our Prayers and Gives Us Revelation,” page 31)
