In this past general conference, President M. Russell Ballard encouraged that “Church members—both men and women—should not hesitate, if they desire, to run for public office at any level of government wherever they live.” He continued, “Our voices are essential today and important in our schools, our cities, and our countries” (“Precious Gifts from God,” general conference, April 2018). Here are eight LDS women in U.S. politics who have already dedicated their lives and their voices to making the world a better place.

While having a good job, earning a living, and making meaningful connections with others are all incredibly important components of a well-rounded lifestyle, these things should not become the foundation of who we are and how we seek our happiness.

What a powerful example of following our Savior regardless of obstacles in our lives. As Elder Josh Bauman wrote in an email to his family, "The whole time [Juanita] was in [the baptismal font] she was saying 'Oh Jesus, Oh Jesus, Oh Jesus,' but with a small voice that struck right into the very center of your heart. After they baptized her, she came up and said, 'Kolabal Jesucristo,' which is Tzeltal [the Mayan language] for 'Thank you, Jesus Christ.'"

On June 1, 2018, a worldwide celebration will be held celebrating the 40 year anniversary of the 1978 revelation that extended the priesthood to all worthy male members of the Church. The First Presidency announced the celebration on April 9, which will be held in Salt Lake City.

"Following the introduction of women’s Stretch Cotton garments, the product line will be extended to include men’s Stretch Cotton styles," store.lds.org states. My wife and I were in France for a stake conference. During a new convert meeting, I noticed two young men in their mid-twenties sitting together. One of them stood and introduced himself. He said that he was a refugee from Russia. He had come to France to escape oppression and there had found the Mormon missionaries and joined the Church. When he sat down, the other young man got to his feet. Speaking in halting French, he told his story. The mission president, who was sitting beside me, translated for us. Here, as best as I can remember it, is what he said:
