When my son Greg was five years old, he approached me in the kitchen with his typical curiosity and asked, “Mommy, where does God live?” He had no idea how the question would change our lives. Without that question, I’m not sure I’d be writing a book, and certainly not one with a chapter on faith.

When I was young and silly, my parents used to take me to southern Utah to visit relatives almost every summer. We would spend a week or two in Kanab and I would devote hours each day to roaming the red hills and canyons in the area with my cousins. One of the activities in which we sometimes engaged was rock rolling. We would climb the K-hill, a small table-top mountain northeast of town and roll rocks down the side. It was awesome to see the largest boulders we could move crashing down the hillside, gathering momentum and speed, dislodging other great rocks and debris which joined the mad cascade to the bottom. There were times when it seemed as if the whole mountain was moving.

While driving to a Young Women camp on Tuesday, June 12, one Young Women leader was killed and three were injured in a rollover crash near Vero Beach, Florida.

If you thought you worried a lot before you became a dad—just wait. I never knew what true worry was until I became a dad. Sure, I had various situations that made me fearful and apprehensive in my life, but from the minute I had those little souls placed under my stewardship, my worries compounded exponentially. I’ve always been a very committed kind of person. If I tell you I’ll do a project, it will be finished. If I accept a calling, I will fulfill it to the best of my ability. This is what I’ve grown up being taught—to be a committed disciple, daughter, friend, sister, and spouse. I realize, however, that in a generation and society where people are more comfortable with the latest hairstyles, the current trends, or the most bizarre new dance moves to satisfy their need for change, terms “commitment” and “eternity” can sound pretty intimidating—even boring. This is especially true when it comes to marriage and family relationships.
