On Saturday, July 18, 2020, the Feather River California Temple became the fourth temple to have a broadcast groundbreaking ceremony due to current COVID-19 guidelines, but that’s not the only way the groundbreaking of the eighth temple in California was remarkable.

For the past eight years, a 50-pound American flag has hung over Little Willow Canyon in Sandy, Utah. At 30 feet by 60 feet, the flag is anchored on either side of the canyon and supported by 500 feet of plasma rope, waving proudly in the breeze from Independence Day to the Saturday after Pioneer Day.

When people think of Missouri, they often focus on the extermination order of Governor Lilburn W. Boggs. On October 27, 1838, the governor’s infamous command declared, “The Mormons must be treated as enemies and must be exterminated or driven from the state, if necessary for the public good.”1 But the extermination order isn’t the whole story.

Latter-day Saints aren't the only ones who have spoken from the podium of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Many US Presidents have as well. In honor of President's Day, here are a few interesting details behind each of their visits to this historic Temple Square building.

Millions of curious people around the world who previously only had the chance to tour inside new or renovated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before they were dedicated during brief open house periods, can now “look inside” a spectacular new cut-away model put on permanent display in the Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors’ Center.

On one of my visits to the Hawaiian island of Moloka‘i to work on the book The Way of Aloha: Moloka‘i, I visited the Kapuaiwa Royal Coconut Grove. This grove was planted in 1863 by King Kamehameha V and contains approximately 1,000 coconut trees. The tallest of these trees towers over 100 feet into the air.

A public open house will be held for the Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Saturday, October 26, through Saturday, November 2, 2019, except Sunday. Open house hours are Monday through Thursday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Reservations are not required.

Today when you hear the word “theater,” you probably think of a dark room, enormous screens, and overflowing buckets of popcorn. But for some people, the theater still represents sweeping curtains, hours of rehearsal, and mic checks. That’s what it means for a small group of Latter-day Saints who are about to make their debut on Off-Broadway in New York this November with a new musical called An Enchanted April. “I don't think there has been a collection of members of the Church producing a musical like this for about 15 years,” writer and Latter-day Saint Elizabeth Hansen says. “The composer, our executive producer, our assistant musical director, our projection designer, our publicist, and two of our actors are also members. It's unique and quite remarkable.”

After 11 years and more than 1,600 performances at the Flamingo, Donny and Marie were honored by the city of Las Vegas with a key to the Strip and an upcoming star on the Walk of Stars.

With both Memorial Day and Flag Day having come and gone in the past couple months, the season of celebrating freedom in the United States is approaching its peak on July 4, when the country commemorates the day it declared its independence.

Born in Tonga in 1962, Elder Vai Sikahema was 5 years old when his family traveled to the nearest temple in New Zealand for the first time. "Whatever could be sold was sold for our passage to New Zealand," Elder Sikahema says in a new LDS Living video.
