Years ago, we were trying to help one of our kids get to sleep when he was sick. After many attempts to get him to fall asleep by cuddling with him, we realized he would be better off if we just let him sleep on his own. With us there, our two-year-old would either enjoy the one-on-one attention or would wake up anytime we moved our cramping arms. Our interventions were actually distractions preventing him from getting the sleep he needed. However, he was not at all happy when we put him in his crib and walked away. I am certain, he was thinking, “Dudes! I don’t feel good! Why is no one coming to hug me when I’m sad!? . . . Hello!? Is anyone there?”

Danny Ainge’s storied career with the Boston Celtics, both as a player and as president of basketball operations will soon come to a close, as was announced Wednesday in news that took the sports world by storm. Ainge’s position will be filled by current Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. Ainge, who brought two NBA titles to Boston as a player and one NBA title as an executive, says his decision to step down was prompted by his family’s concern following a heart attack two years ago. “I started thinking about my life and what I’d like to accomplish. I don’t know what my future holds. I don’t have any plans,” Ainge said Wednesday.

On June 27, 2002, President Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the rebuilt Nauvoo Illinois Temple on the anniversary of the Prophet Joseph Smith’s martyrdom. In his dedicatory prayer, President Hinckley prayed that the temple would “stand as a memorial to him who lived here and was buried here, Joseph Smith, the great prophet of this dispensation, and his brother Hyrum, whom he loved.”

Life for newly commissioned U.S. Navy officer Mason Wells could aptly be described as fluid. Change is everywhere for the 24-year-old sailor.

In 2017, President M. Russell Ballard counseled, “We need to listen to and understand what our LGBT brothers and sisters are feeling and experiencing. Certainly, we must do better than we have done in the past so that all members feel they have a spiritual home where their brothers and sisters love them and where they have a place to worship and serve the Lord” (BYU Devotional, November 14, 2017).

Whether your motivation is to save your kids from repeating your past financial mistakes or to give them a head start on saving—shrewd parents are taking an active role in teaching their kids how to plan for and achieve their financial dreams. The challenge comes when deciding how best to do that.
