I am beginning to see that whether or not I am good enough wasn’t a question God was ever asking.

By shifting the focus of young single adult wards from finding a spouse to finding Jesus Christ, members can more fully enjoy life now.

When my husband became a bishop over four years ago, it was one of the greatest blessings for our family. And yet while my husband’s calling has been a wonderful thing for us, I’ve also found that I’ve needed support from others going through the same experience.

“The impression that weighed upon my soul was that God would be far less troubled by Richard’s ‘thorn in the flesh’ than He would be of our sins against charity.”

As a bishop I had the privilege of helping all of my ward members build a more unified community, no matter what they were experiencing.

Published in 1899, the first Church handbook was small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. The world has changed greatly since then, and so has the handbook.

On Wednesday, the First Presidency released new guidelines for interviews between Church leaders and youth.

“We all have crosses we’re carrying,” former YSA Bishop Richard Ostler said. “To understand someone’s cross, we’ve kind of got to go there with them, listen to their story, and then we’re fully able to mourn with them or comfort them or walk with them.”

On Monday, the First Presidency shared updates in a resource document for Church leaders that specified adults are allowed to be included in bishop or stake president interviews with their children.

The day after their bishop died, members of a ward in Veyo, Utah, gathered together to remember this wonderful man as they met for sacrament meeting.

About his original decision to go undercover as a homeless man, Bishop Musselman told the Deseret News,“As a bishop, I try to always be as giving as I can, and I was surprised at my own inability to have compassion. . . . I thought about some ways I could somehow convey the importance of not being critical … and sometimes the best way to do that is through experiences that go beyond just a talk in church. And so I just laid awake many nights just thinking about what I could do, and then this kinda popped into my brain.”

Baptism is not the last step to conversion. In the case of one bishop, it was just his first step in what became a very long, rocky, and interesting road to finally accepting the Church.

I mentioned previously that ward leaders would soon be able to manage home and visiting teaching and callings on LDS.org from any internet-connected device without having to use MLS on the computer at the church. This week as I’ve perused pictures and pondered the memories of my own children’s baptisms, I noted that one of the strongest and most colorful memories isn’t from the last; it’s from the first. And it didn't unfold during the service. It hit before it began.
