When 21-year-old Edward Dube walked into a Latter-day Saint chapel for the first time, he felt so out of place he almost walked right back out. He not only stayed but found himself bearing a simple testimony to the congregation. What happened after the meeting set him on a course that led not only to baptism, but to service as a missionary, stake president, mission president, and now as a General Authority Seventy. Packer stated. “With the subtitle, it takes its place where it should be—beside the Old Testament and the New Testament.”

When asked to return to Jerusalem and retrieve the plates of brass, Nephi responded in faith that he would “go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded” (1 Nephi 3:7). He later learned from experience that the Lord was true to His word, providing divine assistance to help him accomplish the task. As I talk with Latter-day Saints who struggle with anxiety or other mental health issues, they often look to the example of Nephi. If the Lord wants me to overcome anxiety, He will provide a way, they reason. But what is the way? How much am I supposed to do and how much will He help? It is a very legitimate question. We know the Lord will bless us with divine assistance, but He also insists we do our part. So, what is our part? Coincidentally, Nephi’s own life experience also answers that question.

As I have watched the Book of Mormon videos that have been released each Friday over the last few months, I have been surprised at how many details in the scriptures I have missed, understood differently, or forgotten. For instance, in this week's video, which shows us the story of Enos's mighty prayer, I was given a new insight into why Enos was so preoccupied with his salvation while he was out hunting. In the pages between the end of Jacob and the beginning of Enos, I missed making the connection that it might have been because he was just given a heavy spiritual responsibility to continue the record his father (and the Nephite prophet), Jacob, had been keeping. It really helped me feel and understand the longings of Enos' heart as he talked to his Savior in prayer.
