And beware: Fares for buses and TRAX light rail go up April 1 — halfway through conference. It is no April Fools’ Day joke. As part of a long-planned increase, regular adult one-way fares will jump from $2.25 to $2.35.

The debut of City Creek Center exceeded expectations, but owners of the shops and stores that constitute the mixed-use downtown destination are bracing for more, possibly larger, crowds in its second weekend. Scott Trotter, spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, estimated that 115,000 people will visit downtown during the church's two-day general conference on Saturday and Sunday. City Creek officials expect some of those visitors to make their way to the new shopping center and are preparing to usher in a second wave of curious guests.

Without a doubt, attending general conference is a highlight for millions of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While they gain much from all addresses delivered during conference sessions, many feel that hearing and seeing church President Thomas S. Monson is a highlight among highlights. No one living today has delivered more general conference addresses than President Monson, who became president of the church on Feb. 3, 2008. Since being called to the church's Quorum of the Twelve on Oct. 4, 1963, he has delivered 162 general conference addresses. By the end of the coming general conference, which convenes Saturday and concludes Sunday, he will have addressed 166 sessions of conference.
